AstraZeneca Plc (AZN) today announced that the US Food and Drug Administration approved Nexium (esomeprazole) for the treatment of chronic kidney disease in patients with severe kidney impairment (AKI) and severe acute kidney injury (AKIIA) as a proton pump inhibitor (PPI).
The FDA approved Nexium for acute kidney injury in adults and children aged 6 and older and for acute nephropathy in children with kidney failure (ALL). In addition, it was approved for the management of acute interstitial nephritis (AKIIA) in adults and children with kidney failure (ALL).
